MOTION by R. Writer, SECONDED by C. Lee, The Board of Education approves the consent agenda for the regular board meeting of July 16, 2018 be adopted as written:
1. Minutes: 6-18-2018 2. Warrants: June 2018 Expenditures 3. Recommendations to hire as submitted by Principals Mrs. Karin Falkenstein and Mr. Mark Kurland: Christi Mangold as Kindergarten Teacher, step 1, at Ottawa Elementary Michelle Bender as 5th Grade Math Teacher, step 12, at Buchanan Middle School Brody Roland as BCS Band Percussion Instructor, stipend salary, at Buchanan High School 4. | 2018 SECOND ANNUAL BROTHERHOOD FOOTBALL CAMP – OVERNIGHT FIELD TRIP
|
MOTION by J. DeVlaminck, SECONDED by S. Tobler, The Buchanan Board of Education approves Athletic Director Lonnie Hoover’s request to take the Buchanan High School’s football team (30-40 student athletes) to Tower Hill camp grounds, Sawyer, MI, where they will participate in a 3 day, 2 night camp hosted by Mr. Hoover and five district football coaches. The expected date of departure is: Friday, August 17th, 2018 and returning Sunday, August 19th, 2018; in accordance with board policy #2340.
Member R. Writer expressed concern that the camp is occurring again, given issues that arose at the camp in 2017. She expressed support for the Camp with assurances that that all Board policies are to be followed.

DeVlaminck, The Buchanan Board of Education, approves resolution to name Niles Daily Star/Leader Publications, located in Niles, MI as the printed publication of record as pertaining to legal notices and advertising.

| RATIFICATION OF COLLABORATIVE BARGAINING AGREEMENT WITH THE B.E.A. | MOTION by H. Burnett, SECONDED by K. Laesch, The Buchanan Board of Education ratifies the collective Bargaining Agreement with the Buchanan-5C Education Association, MEA/NEA, for the 2018-19 through 2020-21 school years as reviewed by the Board in closed session on July 16th, 2018, and as recommended by Superintendent Timothy Donahue, pursuant to previous ratification of the same agreement by members of the Buchanan-5C Education Association, MEA/NEA.
President Burnett expressed his appreciation to both the B.E.A. and the administration in reaching this agreement. Though it is not always an easy process, he is pleased to see the two groups meeting to find common ground in order to serve our community and our students.
