CALL TO ORDER  

President: Dr. Harvey Burnett opened the meeting at 6:02 pm

INFORMATION/REPORTS & NEW BUSINESS Mrs. Karla Hurlbutt, Executive Director of Academic Services provided presentation to update the Board on the 3rd grade reading bill.

 

 

SUPERINTENDENT/DEPARTMENT REPORTS –  Buck Staff Recognition November Winner – Mrs. Karen Cuthbert

Mrs. Cuthbert was presented with a gift and certificate of recognition.

–  Updates for BMS, Moccasin, Ottawa, Director of Academics, Business Office & Operations, Food service, Technology, Transportation, and Athletics were provided respectfully.

–  Secure doors at BHS updates were provided along with a discussion regarding the need of protocols for greeting visitors to buildings.

VAN PURCHASE

Writer, The Buchanan Board of Education approves the recommendation as submitted by Tricia Lowery, Executive Director of Business and Operations, for the district to purchase a 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan SE from Sorg Dodge Chrysler Jeep for a total of $23,808.00

2006 F550 4X4 DIESEL DUMP TRUCK WITH V-PLOW PURCHASE MOTION BY Member S. Tobler, SECONDED BY Member K. Laesch, The Buchanan Board of Education approves the recommendation as submitted by Tricia Lowery, Executive Director of Business and Operations, to purchase a 2006 F550 4×4 diesel dump truck with v-plow from Craig Bever Excavating in Buchanan, MI for a total of $19,500; with the understanding that the selling of various operation department assets will offset majority of the cost, and the purchase of this item will allow plowing and other grounds maintenance to be completed by district maintenance/ operations employees.

BOARD OF EDUCATION AND BEA LETTER OF AGREEMENT MOTION BY Member D. Wentworth, SECONDED BY Member S. Tobler, The Buchanan Board Of Education ratifies the Letter of Agreement Between the Buchanan Board Of Education and the Buchanan 5-C Educational Association MEA/NEA as presented regarding master’s degree salary advancement to be incorporated into the 2018-2021 BCS-BEA Contract.

The Buchanan Board of Education accepts the Superintendent goals, expectations, and timeline as recommended by the Personnel Committee at their meeting that occurred November 7, 2018.

BHS BAND EXTENDED OVERNIGHT TRIP TO NEW YORK CITY PROPOSAL MOTION BY Member K. Laesch, SECONDED BY Member R. Writer,

The Buchanan Board of Education approves the BHS Band trip to New York City, for the purposes of allowing students an opportunity to expand on their classroom learning, exposure to multiple performing arts points of interest and to experience real-world application of the craft.  The BHS Band is expected to depart November 22, 2019 and returning November 27, 2019, in accordance with Board policy #2340.  This BHS Band trip will be under the sponsorship of Mr. Mark Hollandsworth.

QUESTIONS & COMMENTS FROM BOARD MEMBERS R. Writer wished all a Happy Thanksgiving.  Mrs. Writer also brought attention to October Student Athlete of the Month Murphy Wegener, and The Buck Staff Recognition collectively.

D. Wentworth gave acknowledgment and appreciation for the BHS Band Competition.

Dr. Burnett informed all of the Shop With A Cop that he and L. Henckle are collaboratively preparing.
