Buchanan selects Timothy Donahue as next Superintendent

The Buchanan Board of Education has extended an offer to current Potterville Superintendent, Mr. Timothy Donahue to serve as their new Superintendent. The board voted unanimously to offer Donahue the position and enter contract negotiations Tuesday night.  The offer followed a series of day-long meetings Donahue attended with focus groups and a community open house in the evening.  The Personnel Committee of the Board hopes to meet with Mr. Donahue within a week to begin contract discussions.

Board President Harvey Burnett called Donahue during the meeting to let him know of the Board’s offer. Burnett also let him know he had put the call on “speakerphone” to allow the audience of over 30 to hear the conversation.  Mr. Donahue responded to the offer with, “I am amazed by the support of the Buchanan Board, staff and community and am grateful for this opportunity.”  Donahue’s statement was followed by applause from the crowd.  Burnett said of Donahue, “Tim is a great fit for the candidate profile we developed and he made an excellent impression on those he met with during the process.  We all look forward to working with him to move our district forward.”

Search Consultant Gary Rider, of the Michigan Leadership Institute, said “The Board did an outstanding job of listening to feedback from the public.  They also kept to their commitment to assess the candidate against the profile that was developed using feedback from the staff and community.”

Timothy Donahue has served as Superintendent for the Potterville Public Schools for the past seven years.  Prior to this work, he served as the High School Principal at Potterville for two years.  Mr. Donahue has an Educational Specialist degree from Oakland University, a Master’s degree in English/Technical Writing from Wayne State University, and a Bachelor’s degree in English Teacher Education from Michigan State University.
