SEPTEMBER 21, 2020 REGULAR MEETING VIRTUAL MEETING

CALL TO ORDER

PRESIDENT: Sandy Tobler opened the virtual meeting at 6:03 pm

RECOGNITION OF VISITORS

Mrs. Tobler welcomed those attending and watching online.

INFORMATION/REPORTS & NEW BUSINESS

Superintendent Robinson and the Executive Team provided their updates respectively.

Budget Recommendation – Mrs. Robinson spoke on the budget recommendation amendment that will be coming up in the future.

Buck Staff Recognition September Winner: Sandra Miller. Mrs. Robinson recognized Mrs. Miller as this month’s winner. Special Education Supervisor, Mrs. Karin Falkenstein, nominated Mrs. Miller for successfully encouraging all her high school artists to take risks with their artistic endeavors. Mrs. Falkenstein especially appreciated her support last year to a student who was reluctant to share his portfolio. She stated her passion for art is an inspiration to her students and the BHS staff.

MOTION by J. DeVlaminck, SECONDED by S. Tobler, the Buchanan Board of Education approves the recommendation to reinstate student #533221 to Buchanan High School Effective the first semester of the 2020-21 school year.

LETTER OF AGREEMENT – PARAPROFESSIONALS

QUESTIONS & COMMENTS FROM BOARD MEMBERS

Mr. Lee provided an update from the previous Budget Committee meeting that was held on September 9^th. He spoke about budget cuts and the involvement with the Math and Science Center.

Mrs. Writer provided an update from the previous Personnel Committee Meeting. The meeting members discussed restructuring the Executive Team, administrator contracts, and the chain of command.

Mrs. Laesch provided an update from the Emergency Planning committee. The members updated the BCS Emergency Plan and touched on crisis plan committee.

Mrs. Writer thanked the Floor Hockey Board and Michigan Gateway Foundation for their donation of plastic dividers. She also thanked BCS food service for delivering almost 100,000 meals.

Dr. Burnett advised that he was working with BMS Principal Mrs. Beasley on D.A.R.E. graduation for students.

Mrs. Laesch thanked Jennie Brackett for making and donating masks for board members. She thanked the Franklin family for their donation of masks to BMS. She thanked Ottawa Elementary Principal Mrs. Denison, for a great job on the back to school video for students.

Mrs. Tobler thanked Mrs. Robinson and staff for a great start of the school year.
