STARK MCTEACHER NIGHT AT
BUCHANAN MCDONALDS
Join us this Monday, November 17th at McDonalds for Stark McTeacher Night. Bring the family out for dinner and let us serve you!
From the Principal
Last week Indian summer weather, this week winter weather arrived! We all suffered through the cold, bitter air. Get out the mittens, boots, hats and snow-pants.
I want to thank our PTO and parents for providing the staff with a wonderful dinner during conferences. Everything was delicious!
Thank- you parents for attending your parent teacher conference. Be sure to set new goals with your child for the next marking period. Periodically check Edline and progress reports to see how your child is doing toward their new goals.
Our reading mentor program kicked off this week. The students are excited to have their own special reading mentor. We have a total of twenty-five mentors at this time. Our goal is sixty by the end of the year! Thanks to the Buchanan Community and Businesses for making this program possible at Stark!
Don’t forget to join us for our McTeacher Night at McDonald’s Monday night the 17th, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Come and let the staff at Stark serve you!
Have a great weekend! Stay warm!

PHYSICAL EDUCATION NEWS
from Mrs. Fox
Wow! It is already November and the physical education classes are working really hard and having a lot of fun. I truly enjoy working with your student and I take my commitment to teaching physical education very seriously. Throughout the year I will present wellness concepts and provide activities to empower your child to learn and apply these concepts to his or her own health program. Please encourage your child to do fitness activities at home to improve his or her fitness level and to make healthy food choices.
Activities that the upper elementary students have experienced so far this year include fitness activities involving pedometers, soccer skills and games, tennis and of course exciting Halloween activities.
The lower elementary students have participated in Space Awareness activities, scarves, and station work that introduce a lot of different skills such as balance skills, throwing and catching activities, jump roping, basketball dribbling, striking activities, etc.
As the weather gets colder and the classes move inside please make sure your child has clean tennis shoes that fit properly. If a shoe fits well the student has more fun and it is safer for everyone. Also, if pants are baggy or long please make sure they wear a belt. So many students are limited because they need one or both hands to hold up their pants!
I am looking forward to a great year!
STARK SHIRTS FOR SALE

PARENTS AS TEACHERS
A wonderful opportunity exists in Berrien County for families with children newborn to age five. The Berrien RESA (formerly Berrien Count Intermediate School District) is pleased to provide to the area a program for families that recognizes parents as a child's first and best teacher. It is called Parents As Teachers, or PAT.
One aspect of this program is monthly playgroups. These are available throughout the county to connect parents in the local school communities. They are designed to provide young children with appropriate social contacts and a stimulating play environment. The playgroups seek to meet the needs of infants and toddlers alike with theme-based learning through play. Each month, we give away classic children's books during the playgroups to all families who attend. Snacks are also provided!
The Buchanan, Parents As Teachers Playgroup will be held at Moccasin School on the 3rd Monday of each month from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m.
